The Verandah House was designed for a young family that enjoys being active and outside in the heart of a historic neighborhood just south of downtown Sarasota. As a corner lot, the property was bordered by neighborhood roads on three sides and a two-story residence on the fourth – making privacy a key concern for the garden spaces and building envelop with lots of glazing. The vision was to unite the interiors with the exterior spaces, both visually and physically, yet not detract from the purity of the architecture. Simple gestures and compositions were created that complemented the geometry and materiality of the building. The planting, hardscape, and lighting design work together to create an experience for visitors and a wonderful setting for the expressive architecture.
